Targeted Prayer

With this information in mind, we can conclude that there is wisdom in focusing/targeting our prayers on the causes of cerebral palsy. There is a famous quote by Charles Haddon Spurgeon that comes to mind. He said,

"There is a general kind of prayer which fails for lack of precision. It is as if a regiment of soldiers should all fire their guns anywhere. Possibly somebody would be killed, but the majority of the enemy would be missed. Our prayers may be very beautiful in appearance and might appear to be the very paragon of devotion, but unless there is a secret spiritual force in them, they are vain things."

In other words, there is no point in praying haphazardly and getting no results. When praying about a matter, one needs to pray with focus and target the root of the problem. When we target the cause of a thing we can destroy it before it manifests.

From the above definition and information about cerebral palsy, we see that it develops either while a baby is still growing in the womb, during birth or shortly after birth. We therefore need to pray targeting these stages of a child’s development and even earlier.

As Christians we need to understand that we can call those things that are not as though they were (Romans 4:17); that we can decree a thing and it will be established (Job 22:28) and that life and death is in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21).
