From the above definition and information about cerebral palsy, we see that it develops either while a baby is still growing in the womb, during birth or shortly after birth. We therefore need to pray targeting these stages of a child’s development and even earlier.
As Christians we need to understand that we can call those things that are not as though they were (Romans 4:17); that we can decree a thing and it will be established (Job 22:28) and that life and death is in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21).
Parents can begin to pray for their children even before they are conceived in the womb. They can decree over the body of the mother that she will be healthy; that there will be no complications; that the child shall be normal and will be delivered at God’s appointed time. Even after the child is conceived and after it is born, parents should continue to pray and believe God to keep the child healthy and free from every ailment.
This is not to say that we should not pray for those children who have already been diagnosed with cerebral palsy or for older people who have been living with cerebral palsy for many years. Many of the people that Jesus healed in the Bible were adults. In Luke 5:18-25, Jesus healed the man who was sick of the palsy. God can do anything and it is never too late with the Lord. He is still in the business of doing miracles.
We also have to remember to pray for those who take care of patients with cerebral palsy. It could be a family member, a live in nurse even the doctors and other health care specialists. We need to pray that God will give them the patience, the wisdom and understanding and more importantly that the love of God would be shared abroad in their hearts.
Our prayer is that as you read that which we have put on this site, the Holy Spirit will minister to you and will guide you on how best to pray for those who you know have cerebral palsy, for their family members and those who take care of them.
